• How much does a VIA engineer make?

  Bachelor of Engineering graduates

  Graduates from VIA engineering programmes can expect a strong starting salary. According to IDA  (Danish engineering association) salary statistics, the average starting salary in 2025 is around DKK 46,000 per month including pension. Salaries may vary depending on your engineering specialisation and the industry you enter.

  Mid-career (5-10 years of experience)

  As you gain experience, your salary will increase significantly. After five to ten years in the field, many VIA graduates typically earn between DKK 60,000 and 70,000 per month – or more, depending on sector and level of responsibility. Experience, specialisation and leadership responsibilities all play a role. Engineers who move from specialist roles into management positions can often negotiate considerably higher salaries.

  Managers and specialists

  In the longer term, you may progress into specialist or leadership roles. Management positions are among the highest paid. According to Statistics Denmark, employees in senior private sector roles earn an average of around DKK 78,000 per month. Engineers who become project managers, senior managers or highly skilled experts in areas such as green transition or advanced manufacturing often fall into this salary range. Responsibility and industry are key factors – the greater the responsibility and complexity of your role, the higher your salary potential.

  Bonus and Benefits

  In addition to your base salary, many engineers receive bonuses, company cars, pension schemes and other employee benefits. Annual bonuses or performance-related pay can amount to several thousand Danish kroner.

  Typical roles include development engineer, production manager, project manager, quality assurance specialist, automation specialist or IT consultant.
